OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
All Småfolk products are made from materials certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX®, and our cotton products are fully OEKO-TEX® certified. With a strong focus on quality, comfort, and children’s safety, Småfolk is committed to minimizing the use of harmful substances in our clothing.
The name OEKO-TEX® indicates that the textile products are human-ecological and have no harmful effects on health. Products labeled with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 have been tested for a wide range of harmful substances.
In other words, OEKO-TEX® is a product label that ensures children are not exposed to harmful influences through our clothing – your guarantee that a product has been checked for hazardous chemicals. Only products that meet the requirements of OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 are permitted to carry this label.

Organic Cotton Products
Organic cotton is the primary material used in our collections. We’ve chosen it for several reasons: no harmful pesticides are used, greenhouse gas emissions are up to 94% lower than conventional farming, and both energy and water usage are reduced.
We believe that our organic cotton products are a better choice – for the environment, for the workers in cotton production, and not least for the children who wear it close to their skin. We are proud to be one of the first children's clothing brands in Denmark to use organic cotton.
Our cotton products are made from 95% organic cotton and 5% elastane. They are soft, comfortable, and offer children great freedom of movement. The fabric is produced in Turkey and is of course OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. The cotton we use comes from Turkey and Sudan.
We use digital printing for our styles, which uses far less water and minimizes fabric waste compared to other methods (such as rotary printing). Digital printing also allows for many more colors – something we love, as we’re passionate about color.
The colors used in our digital prints are also organic and OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified.
Winterwear and Thermal Clothing
All components in our winterwear that come into direct contact with the skin – such as outer materials, coatings, and non-textile accessories like buttons, reflectors, and zippers – are sourced from OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified suppliers. This ensures that no harmful chemicals come into contact with the skin.
Our winterwear is waterproof, windproof, and highly breathable (water column: 10,000 mm, breathability: 10,000 g/m²/24h).
Our thermal wear is not waterproof but water-repellent – ideal for temperatures around +10°C. The Bionic Finish Eco coating ensures that your child stays warm and dry.
Bionic Finish Eco
All of Småfolk’s winterwear and thermal wear is treated with Bionic Finish Eco – a biodegradable surface treatment that makes the product water- and dirt-repellent, windproof, and still breathable.
Bionic Finish Eco helps maintain high breathability by preventing moisture from penetrating the fabric, while excess body moisture is transported to the surface of the material and evaporated. It also helps preserve the garment's color.
Rainwear
Our rainwear is made of 100% polyurethane (PU/PUR), OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, and free from fluorocarbons (PFCs). It features welded seams and water-repellent zippers, ensuring a water column pressure of 10,000 mm – to keep children dry on rainy days.
Mulesing-Free Wool Collection
We use merino wool in some of our wool products. Merino is breathable, absorbs moisture without feeling wet, is antibacterial, and odor resistant – which means fewer washes are needed.
Merino wool is a natural fiber that biodegrades into its basic elements and doesn’t pollute oceans and waterways when washed or discarded. All our merino wool is guaranteed mulesing-free and comes from sheep raised under proper conditions. Our wool products are also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified.
What is Mulesing?
Mulesing has traditionally been a routine surgical practice in many sheep farms, where much of the commercial wool comes from. It involves removing strips of skin from around a lamb's hindquarters to prevent infection from flies. The scarred skin has fewer folds where moisture and feces can accumulate, reducing the risk of flystrike. However, it is a painful procedure and can be avoided with more humane practices – albeit at higher cost. That’s why mulesing-free merino wool may be slightly more expensive.
UV Swimwear
Our swimwear is made from 80% polyester and 20% elastane – soft and comfortable for kids. The fabric is stretchy, making the garments easy to take on and off.
All our swimwear provides UPF50+ protection, which means it blocks up to 98% of the sun's UV rays. The fibers are tightly woven to prevent the rays from penetrating.
What is UPF?
Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measures how much UV radiation penetrates fabric and reaches the skin. UPF50+ is the highest available rating, blocking more than 97% of harmful rays.
Sunscreen is still important!
Always remember sunscreen – especially on exposed areas such as the face, legs, and hands. If the swimwear is removed during the day, be sure to reapply sunscreen to the whole body.
